Current Paediatric Department - Overcrowded and Out Of Date
Although the medical care and the emotional support Shaare Zedek provides to young patients is first-class, the hospital is challenged by outdated physical facilities and equipment. Whilst paediatric patient numbers have trebled since the current hospital was opened in 1979, no major renovation work has taken place. Many rooms have no windows and corridors have been turned into wards. In addition, and crucially, there are no facilities for parents, a minimal necessity in the practice of modern paediatric medicine.
The Wilf Children's Hospital is a £10 million project. Like all other Jerusalem hospitals, Shaare Zedek receives no funding from the Israeli government for development, new equipment or research.
